Anushree Vichare, interim Director

Dr. Anushree Vichare serves as Interim Director of the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity and Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. A primary care physician and health policy researcher, Dr. Vichare brings extensive expertise in health services research, healthcare policy, and health equity. Her research examines how state and federal policies influence healthcare access, utilization, and health outcomes among low-income and underserved populations, with particular emphasis on cancer care and healthcare disparities. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with leading medical societies to develop evidence-based practice improvement tools, including clinical practice guidelines and quality measures designed to enhance the quality and delivery of cancer care. At the Mullan Institute, Dr. Vichare leads and contributes to research focused on the healthcare workforce and the structural factors that shape equitable access to care. Her work investigates the impact of physician reimbursement policies, workforce composition, and provider distribution on healthcare access and quality, particularly for Medicaid-covered and other historically underserved populations. Through this research, she seeks to inform policies that strengthen the healthcare workforce and advance health equity nationwide. In addition to her leadership as Interim Director, Dr. Vichare serves as Co-Director of the Health Workforce Diversity Initiative, where she advances efforts to build a more diverse, equitable, and representative health workforce. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to developing policy-driven solutions that improve healthcare delivery, reduce disparities, and promote better health outcomes for vulnerable communities.
