Program Evaluations

Evaluation of the California Medicine Scholars Program

In collaboration with the Foundation for California Community Colleges, this project will evaluate its California Medicine Scholars Program (CMSP), through a three-phase evaluation plan employing both quantitative and qualitative methods to maximize evaluation rigor, enrich data reflective of student and awardee experience, and facilitate a continual feedback loop to CMSP staff and Regional Hub of Healthcare Opportunity (“RHHO”) awardees.

  1. Front-end Evaluation: To understand regional and institutional context and program needs, assess the capability of the current data collection infrastructure and the feasibility of proposed data elements, and assist with overall project organization and planning.
  2. Formative Evaluation: To assess all project components and activities using a mixed methods approach to compare program design elements at each RHHO. Proposed qualitative methods include annual student surveys, focus groups with subsets of students to gather rich data on specific topics or demographic groups (preferably facilitated by an individual with shared lived experience), and ongoing interviews with RHHO staff and community partners. Quantitative data will be collected to track student program engagement, demographics, and outcomes.
  3. Summative Evaluation: To assess overall program efficacy and performance by RHHOs upon its 3-year conclusion.
