A new book on the healthcare workforce, The Healthcare Professional Workforce: New Directions in Theory and Practice, was published by Oxford Press. This book is comprised of seven unique chapters alongside commentaries from heads of healthcare organizations and influential physicians, providing a theoretical and practical benchmark for understanding the next generation of human capital in one of society's most important labor sectors. The GWHWI had a strong presence at the 2017 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting with 5 members presenting posters, speaking on panels, and chairing panels. The GWHWI was represented by Clese Erikson, Jeongyoung Park, Leah Masselink, Ed Salsberg, and Xinxin Han. Available presentations are below:
Clese Erikson chaired the 16th International Health Workforce Collaborative, October 25-28, 2016, an invitation-only gathering of leading workforce experts and policy leaders from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The meeting included an in-depth exploration of shared workforce challenges across the countries related to patient centered care, credentialing, disruptive innovations, and leadership. Patricia Pittman and Edward Salsberg presented at the conference which was hosted this year by the U.S. in Washington, DC. Planning has begun for the 17th conference which will take place in New Zealand in spring 2018 and Ms. Erikson will chair the U.S. delegation.
The GWHWI co-hosted a conference on Health Workforce Innovations with the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The goal of this meeting was to identify promising health workforce innovations that support delivery system transformation and develop recommendations for their implementation. GWHWI members Patricia Pittman, Clese Erikson, and Edward Salsberg presented on behalf of GWHWI.
