WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 20, 2019) – Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University (GW) today announced that Leana Wen, MD, MSc, FAAEM, will join the school as a visiting professor of health policy and management. Wen, who starts Sept. 1, has also been named a distinguished fellow in the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (Mullan Institute).
Wen most recently served as president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, where she worked to expand comprehensive health care for vulnerable women and families. She previously was Health Commissioner for Baltimore City, where she led innovative work to reduce health disparities, improve maternal and child health and combat the opioid epidemic.

The Mullan Institute was well represented at the 2019 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting. Collectively, members Candice Chen, Clese Erikson, Xinxin Han, Eric Luo, Jeongyong Park, and Patricia Pittman participated in 4 panel presentations, 1 panel discussion, and 5 posters. Clese Erikson and Patricia Pittman also participated in around table discussion during the Health Workforce Interest Group Meeting regarding our Health Workforce Research Centers.
Patricia Pittman, co-director of the GW Health Workforce Institute, is one of four individuals named as Honorary Fellows. The Academy is comprised of nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research. The Honorary Fellow designation recognizes the contributions of noteworthy professionals from outside of the nursing profession. Read more

The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) Research Advisory Committee welcomes new members, including GW HWRC Deputy Director, Clese Erikson. Operating in an advisory capacity, the Committee supports the efforts of the Board’s Data Release and Research Committee (DRRC) to develop, promote, and maintain a robust research agenda and establish new partnerships with nationally-recognized researchers and organizations.
